You're Going to Die By C. Matthews
Y’all, in December 2017 I almost died. Well, at least I thought I was going to die. I went to the doctor with what turned about to be a combination of unrelated symptoms. In hindsight it’s a little comical. However, in the moment I thought I was on my way out of here. I began to think of everything I had worked on this year. Who would carry on my legacy? What would become of everything I had built?
Although these questions bothered me, what I didn’t have to worry about was handling unfinished business. I can confidently say that if God forbid, something happened to me, I have done everything I was supposed to do thus far. I do believe there is more for me to do in the coming years. But had I left this earth then, I would not have taken any ideas or projects with me. Can you say the same?
A fan stopped Gary Vaynerchuk on the street one day. He asked, "tell me something inspiring". I'm sure the fan was expecting some sort of flowery quote. Do you know what Gary's response was? He simply stated, "You're going to die. Does that motivate you?" And then he got in his car and drove away.
In reality we shouldn't need any special motivation to do the things we were put on this earth specifically to do. Personally, I want to die empty having made all my contributions to present and future generations.
Who will tell your story if you don’t tell it? The fact that each of us will leave this earth one day is such a powerful motivator to do the things that you are called to do. Each of us has an assignment. A gift that we were put on the earth to share with the world. What’s yours?
